old Javanese fish container baskets from Eastern Java are tightly woven lacquered
and painted rattan containers. They are waterproof since these hand made
baskets were used to carry live fish home from the market. They have been
hand painted many times to keep them watertight. The peeling layers of
color add to the patina of these beautiful, unusual hand made baskets. |
