Dance
costumes from the traditional dances of Java are noted for their ornate sense
of design. Each costume in the dance has distinct characteristics that
identifies the character being danced. The hats are particularly distinctive
with such features as shape, color, degree of ornamentation, and painting. Each
dance troupe has costumes for many characters as well as costumes for the chorus. The
painted parts of the costumes are usually on water buffalo hide that are decorated
with sequins. |
